Bucket hat pattern for pre-school kids

A #DIYBandanaHeads crochet hat pattern available for sale at

With a flat top and tapered crown this tall bucket-style hat is perfect for the little super-heroes who love playing in the great outdoors. Hats with brims protect young eyes from the glare on a sunny day. Choose your own colorways to suit a girl or boy between the ages of two and four.  Striping suggestions and variations that address differences in the gauges between cotton and wool yarns are provided in the pattern.

To make the bright cotton hat you will need a 4 mm crochet hook and light sport weight or 5 ply cotton yarn such as Catania by Schachenmayr Nomotta or On line Linie 163, Bingo. The coastal blues hat was crocheted with sports-weight woolen yarn by the Brown Sheep Yarn Co.

Free Crochet Pattern - Travel Teddy Bear #DIYBandanaHeads

This is an easy and fun pattern in single crochet. The little travel bear only stands 8 inches (20.5 cms) tall; small enough to take in your carry-on luggage. You will need a small amount of DK acrylic yarn (no more than 25 grams) and siliconized polyester stuffing. The crochet stitches are worked with a 4mm hook (size F). The eyes, nose and mouth are embroidered with a 4 ply cotton yarn using a blunt wool needle. The heart motif is a scrap of variegated DK yarn.

The pattern is free so that as many little bears as possible can be made and given away to give cheer and comfort to anyone in need of encouragement and kindness; children, adults, family, friends, acquaintances, strangers.

This little teddy can be anyone’s mascot. I gave one to my father when he was in his mid-nineties and getting increasingly feeble. All my grandchildren have at least one and some of them have a complete set (mum, dad, kid 1, kid2, grandma, grandpa) because they enjoy playing their make-believe games.

Teddies can transport us to a quiet place where we can forget our own story for a while.

You can download the pattern now at Ravelry and start making this adorable teddy bear today. The pattern is written in the style of the headwear patterns for sale at my Etsy Store

Everyday-style crochet headwear

Save 25% when you purchase a bundle of Bandana Heads' crochet patterns:

An open check crochet stitch is featured in all three Everyday styles: beanie, bandana and headband. The crochet beanie is unisex - guys with buzzed or bald heads will appreciate the softness and comfort of lightweight cotton.

You will need 1 x 50 g skein of 4 ply fingering weight yarn for each project and a 3.00 mm hook. If you have ribbon yarn in your stash you may like to embellish the edge of the beanie for a pretty accent.

My favorite cotton yarn for a summer weight beanie or bandana is a 4 ply cotton from Brazil by Circulo Linhas called Anne. It is very soft and comes in a luscious variety of colors. Other yarn suggestions include: Fingering/4 ply weight yarn such Mandarin Petit by Norwegian Spirit, Sesia Baby by Sesia, Rowan 4 ply cotton, Panda Regal 4 ply and Heirloom 4 ply cotton from Australia.

Visor beanie pattern for babies - afghan daisy - granny square crochet hat pattern

Our little model, Stella Daisy, is 8 months old and her crochet cap fits her perfectly. Hat elastic can be incorporated in the construction of the cap to provide a custom fit for most babies up to the age of 12 months.

The bill or sun visor protects young eyes from the glare on a sunny day and colorful granny squares are pleasing to babies. You will enjoy crocheting these daisy granny squares that join easily to make a crown and match the hexagon that forms the top of the cap.

Crochet a granny square cap for a special baby shower gift. Handmade gifts are filled with love. You will need sport weight or DK yarn in cotton or cotton blends and a 3.5 mm (size E) hook to crochet this travel cap for babies.

Comprehensive crochet instructions are supported by stitch charts and a table of crochet terms used in the pattern. You can purchase your downloadable PDF pattern at BandanaHeads shop on Etsy.
